Taiwan's Yiping News reported on the 5th that `The Taipei-based mansion left by Seo Hee-won is worth T$460 million (about 20.212.4 billion won), and still has to pay off a mortgage of more than T$1 million (about 43.94 million won) per month. If no one wants to pay this loan, it can go to auction," the report said.
Seo Hee-won reportedly owned two houses during his lifetime. The mansion in question in Sinui, Taipei, lived with Koo Jun-yup, and there is also a house in the National Museum of Art worth $210 million, which was purchased before marriage and currently lives in by his mother Hwang Chun-mae.
With Seo Hee-won's death, the heir must complete the inheritance tax return within six months. The problem is ownership of this mansion.
If Seo Hee-won purchased this house before marriage, it would be equivalent to 'Marriage Property'. If so, according to the civil law regulations, Koo Jun-yeop will inherit two children and a third each. If the mansion was purchased after marrying Koo Jun-yeop, Koo Jun-yeop would have half the rights of the mansion, corresponding to 'post-marriage property'. The other half will be shared by one-third with two children.
At this time, concerns were raised that the two children's parental authority was Wang So-bi, Seo Hee-won's ex-husband, so they could control the inheritance they would receive. However, since Koo Jun-yeop is a Korean who is a 'completely favored nation', he can legally inherit the real estate and handle the shared inheritance alone without the consent of Wang So-bi.
According to the media "If Koo Joon-yeop handles shared inheritance, Wang So-bi must file a lawsuit for the division of the estate in court even if he wants to dispose of his children's real estate. It takes a long time and children become more self-conscious as they get older, so it's one of the ways to protect them."
Since heirs must discuss ways to re-loan and repayment with the bank regarding the monthly loans, Koo Joon-yeop must consult with the bank along with Wang So-bi. Otherwise, if no one wants to pay off the loans left by Seo Hee-won, the bank can seize the house and hand it over to auction," he said.
Koo Joon-yeop reunited with Seo Hee-won in 2022 and married her after more than 20 years. However, Seo Hee-won died of acute pneumonia during a trip to Japan on Feb. 2. Seo Hee-won hoped for an arboretum, but Koo Joon-yeop and his bereaved family decided to place the burial site in Geumbosan Mountain to provide an independent mourning space.
