Dexter Studio (206560, hereinafter referred to as Dexter), a content company, announced that it has completed registration of new patents for a total of four cases, including AI de-aging and upscaling.
The newly registered AI patent is a technology that combines advanced algorithms with deep learning-based image processing methods with ▲ video sequence aging homeostasis maintenance technology ▲ multi-layer image high-quality upscaling technology.
The patent name of AI de-aging technology is 'Image production method for maintaining de-aging homeostasis for video sequences'. It is characterized by automatically applying the aging effect, which was previously processed individually for each frame, to the entire image while realizing a natural and consistent appearance.
By applying 'keyframe', which significantly changes facial expressions, lighting, etc. in the entire video to the rest of the frames with similar structures, we implement a consistent de-aging effect on successive frames. In addition, the color distribution of only the face skin, excluding the neck, shoulders, and hair, is matched with the colors of the de-aged image to achieve a consistent de-aging effect that preserves the original atmosphere and skin tone.
Through the personalization function, the intensity of aging can be controlled by recognizing age and gender, so both aging and de-aging are possible, so it can respond to scenes in which age groups change significantly. The technology is being applied to projects such as global OTT, and it can also be used to change the filmed actor's face into another actor's face and expression 'FaceSwap'.
The patent name 'Image production method for high-quality upscaling for multi-layer images' is an upscaling technology optimized for VFX and high-resolution content production. Unlike conventional single image baseline upscaling methods, each layer (color, lighting, depth, location, etc.) of a multi-layer image, such as an Extended Range (EXR) format, is separated, upscaled independently, and then reconstructed. Even when upscaling a multi-layer image to which characteristic data of each layer should be maintained to a super resolution of the final production quality level, texture and detail may be improved with high processing efficiency without data loss.
In addition, Dexter has registered a total of four new patents, including 3D body profile production using full-body scanning and motion capture, and patents on photographing systems using digital humans in virtual production environments. Many new VFX technologies, such as AI deep learning-based matching technology and photogrammetry shooting automation technology, are also patent-pending. It operates an AI team consisting of AI artists and AI engineers and is also focusing on developing new technologies such as accumulating AI production know-how and Generative AI.
Director of the Dexter R&D Research Institute, Song Jae-won, "In addition to this patent technology, a number of AI technologies directly linked to the VFX production pipeline are steadily increasing work efficiency and expanding the scope of technology application to various projects such as movies, dramas, and CF."Resources secured by maximizing efficiency are being invested to secure unique technological advantages, such as the development of a deep learning-based 'Digital Human Facial System' that can be used for leading characters."
