MBC said in a press release on the 19th that `We take the results of special labor supervision by the Ministry of Employment and Labor very seriously, and we will make prevention of recurrence, improvement of organizational culture, and compliance with labor-related laws as the top priorities of management.'
Earlier, the Ministry of Employment and Labor acknowledged that Oyoanna had been continuously bullied since joining the company in 2021.
In particular, a senior weatherman openly criticized Oyoanna's appearance on the show, saying, `What can you say when you go out to Uquiz?' and pointed out that there were repetitive and emotional words and actions.
In addition, considering that the deceased continuously complained of mental pain around him and that the suicide note contained details, it was judged that such an act constituted bullying.
However, he said that it is difficult to regard a weatherman as a worker, and that it does not fall under the Labor Standards Act 'work harassment'.
However, the bereaved families protested the conclusion, calling it `disastrous.'
MBC said, `We will take appropriate measures against those involved""Based on the "Implementation Plan for the overall organizational culture" submitted to the Ministry of Labor, we are already taking improvement measures, and we will review the deficiencies again."I promised.
MBC also announced its plan to overhaul the system so that all types of workers, including freelancers and outsourcing workers, will not be discriminated against, and expand 'clean center' that can be reported anonymously.
Meanwhile, the former weatherman Oyoanna died on his own at the age of 28. In January, a suicide note containing a complaint of bullying at work was found on the deceased's mobile phone, raising social controversy over how he died, and the contents of a group chat room with fellow weathermen were released, causing a stir.
The bereaved family filed a lawsuit for damages against A, who was identified as the subject of the harassment at the time, and the case is currently under trial.
In this special labor supervision, not only the Oyoanna incident but also the overall organizational culture in MBC was investigated. For freelancers PD, AD, and FD who work in the current affairs and culture sector, they plan to take corrective measures, such as writing labor contracts, in recognition of their worker characteristics.
The official results of MBC's special supervision by the Ministry of Employment and Labor will be announced as early as next week.
