Jungkook was embroiled in controversy by wearing a hat with the phrase "'MAKE TOKYO GREAT AGAIN' on the rehearsal stage of J-Hope's solo encore concert 'Hope on the Stage Final' held at the main stadium of Goyang Stadium on the 13th.
The phrase is a parody of former U.S. President Donald Trump's campaign slogan 'MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN', known as an expression used by far-right figures in Japan. The hat, which is a product of Japanese fashion brand 'Bay6', has also been sold out in online malls since Jungkook wore it.
Jungkook left a message on the fan platform Weverse in the early morning of the 14th, the next day, saying, `I sincerely apologize for the disappointment and inconvenience caused to many people by the words on my hat during rehearsals today.'
Then "I take it seriously that I have been disappointed and hurt by my lack of wearing it without fully confirming the historical and political meaning of the text. There is no excuse for any reason. I wasn't good enough and I was careless," he added.
Then "I will humbly accept both the criticism and the criticism of my mistake."The hat was immediately discarded."
Jungkook was discharged from the military service on the 11th.
