According to the legal community on the 30th, the 6-1 Criminal Department (appeal) of Seongnam Branch of the Suwon District Court will hold an appeal hearing on August 12 against Oh Young-soo, who was accused of forced harassment.
Sentencing was originally scheduled for June 3, but it was postponed to the 10th due to the presidential election, and the date was changed twice to July 1. It has been confirmed to resume the hearing again in August, and a witness interrogation is scheduled for the hearing date.
In March last year, the first trial found Oh Young-soo guilty and sentenced him to two years in prison and ordered him to complete a 40-hour sexual violence treatment program. Since then, the prosecution has appealed on the grounds of improper sentencing, Oh Young-soo's misrepresentation of facts, misunderstanding of the law, and improper sentencing.
At that time, the court said "The victim is making relatively consistent statements, and the circumstances are consistent with the contents of the diary written at that time." He informed people of the damage, and at that time, the me-too in the theater industry continued, so he went to see 'Snow in March' to receive an apology. It is also consistent with the contents of counseling received from counseling institutions, so it seems that it is a statement that cannot be made without experience."
Oh Young-soo is accused of forced harassment on two occasions, hugging and kissing the cheek in front of victim A's residence while staying in Daegu for a theater performance in 2017. However, Oh Young-soo has denied the allegations, saying, "It is true that he visited the residence holding A's hand on the promenade, but there was no harassment."
Oh Young-soo's lawyer apologized formally to the actors and producers, although he was embarrassed by the sudden demand for an apology from the victim when it became a hot topic with "Squid Game.""Even so, "The defendant has not committed any crime in his 80 years of life, and has only been engaged in theater activities, thinking that plays are his vocation. I lost everything in this incident, but please restore my honor and let me end my life on stage."
Meanwhile, Oh Young-soo played the role of Oh Il-nam in the original Netflix series 'Squid Game' season 1 and made his face known to viewers around the world with 'Grandpa Kkonbu'. In January 2022, he became the first Korean actor to receive the 79th Golden Globe TV Award for Best Supporting Actor.
