The novel is based on the 2012 novel of the same name by novelist Jin Jin Woo-cheng. It was aired simultaneously on CCTV-8 and Tencent in China in 2023 and ranked No. 1 in OTT popularity throughout the Chinese broadcast, and was evaluated as a well-made drama that drew criticism and public acclaim at the same time by rating various awards ceremonies in 2024.

The drama is set in Shanghai in the 1990s and depicts a period drama about a poor young man named Abao (Huger) who jumps into the world of capital and grows into a millionaire during the reform and opening period. Abao, in particular, portrays the dramatic narratives of characters unfolding between love, ambition, and solitude in a intertwined relationship with three women: Lingzi (Mairi), Miss Wang (that's right), and Li (Shinzray).
