The second episode of MBC's liberal arts program 'Architecture-Space Traveler' (directed by So Hyung-joon Cho, Sung Seung-min/writer Nam Soo-hee/hereinafter 'Architecture with a Reason' depicts an architectural trip in search of masterpieces by Kim Soo-geun who designed Korea. Jeon Hyun-moo, Park Sun-young, and Jung Young-han made a pleasant and intelligent architectural trip with the chemistry of the announcer's seniors and juniors.
Jeon Hyun-moo, the first guide, introduced Kim Soo-geun's masterpiece Gyeongdong Church in Jangchung-dong, Seoul. Gyeongdong Church was a work that showed why Kim Soo-geun was famous as an architect of light and bricks. Looking around the unified Gyeongdong Church with red bricks, Jeon Hyun-moo explained that the rough texture of the bricks gives the building a three-dimensional effect.
Jeon Hyun-moo, who poured out his hard-studied architectural knowledge, drew laughter by acting as a new secondary character 'Moo Hyun-jun', saying, `Our architects~', and worrying that architect Yoo Hyun-jun in the studio had nothing more to explain.
Unlike ordinary churches, Gyeongdong Church focused its attention on '3 nothing', which does not reveal crosses, windows, and front doors on the exterior. Yoo Hyun-jun explained that the design has a reverent and sacred meaning. The process of climbing the stairs to the chapel was interpreted as 'the way to approach God with his head down.'" The only large window inside the cathedral was designed to allow light to illuminate the cross from above, attracting attention. Yoo Hyun-jun said "When looking at the architecture, we should not forget that humans are the main photosensitive animals. The eyes are drawn toward the light coming in, and when the light comes down from above, you raise your head and feel awe," he said, pointing out the architect's intention.
Park Sun-young exclaimed, `I feel like I've seen a ray of hope at the end of a long tunnel.' Drunk with the holly sensibility of the building, Jeon Hyun-moo immersed himself in 'muto-grapher'"Pretty". He pressed the camera shutter, saying, "There is no shortage anywhere in the country."

Jeon Hyun-moo and Park Sun-young were surprised to find that the old Samteo building, located in a famous spot in front of Hyehwa Station, was also a structure of Kim Soo-geun. Jeon Hyun-moo, who had a two-on-two meeting in college near here, said "I threw away the beep number note I gave you on the way to break up." The architect's intention was also in the space with sad memories of Jeon Hyun-moo, the meeting place. Yoo Hyun-jun explained his intention to make public use of the space between buildings and under the buildings by making a way through them and underneath them, saying, `When Kim Soo-geun was working on Daehak-ro, he thought a lot about publicity.'
Finally, Park Sun-young introduced an early work that announced rookie Kim Soo-geun, the Namsan Freedom Center (former Korea Freedom Federation), which was completed in 1969. The Freedom Center is a state-led building that visualizes anti-communist ideology during the military regime, and its symmetrical structure that makes you feel dignified and its tall and long stairs at the back gate where you feel authority caught the eye.
Historian Kim Jae-won said, `There is also a critical view that he was an architect who carried out state projects during the military regime", he said, citing the Namyeong-dong Anti-Communist Investigation Office designed by Kim Soo-geun, who is still divided, as an example. The spatial features of Namyeong-dong Anti-Communist Investigation Office that give a sense of fear were also introduced. Yoo said "Architecture has the power to manipulate people. There is a perception that space has nothing to do with me, but we are affected without knowing it. He concluded his architectural journey by emphasizing the invisible power of 'knife-like architecture' that can harm or save people with just one spatial design.
Meanwhile, MBC 'The Reasoned Architecture-Space Traveler', which airs every Tuesday at 9 p.m., is a new concept architectural talk show that tells stories that cross various fields such as history, culture, economy, art, and science through architecture. Star architect Yoo Hyun-joon and Jeon Hyun-moo, Hong Jin-kyung and Park Sun-young will appear.
