MBC's late weatherman Oyoanna denied allegations of bullying in the workplace, saying in court, `It was a good relationship with the deceased.'

The first trial of a civil lawsuit filed by the bereaved family of MBC weatherman Oyoanna, who died in September last year, against a former colleague A, who was identified as a bullying perpetrator in the workplace, was held. A's side denied the allegations altogether, saying they did not bother Oh.

On the 22nd, the 48th Division of Civil Agreement (Chief Judge Baek Do-kyun) of the Seoul Central District Court held the first hearing of a lawsuit filed by Oyoanna's bereaved family against former weatherman A. The trial began on the basis of the bereaved family's claim that A had been bullied at work and that Oyoanna made an extreme choice.

Mr. A said in his defense, "The deceased were in good relationship while he was alive, and there was no bullying"It's actually distortion to extract only some of the conversations and drive them to harassment." Also "OConsidering that Anna struggled with malicious comments and personal circumstances before her death, there is no causal relationship between death and A's actions.

In response, the bereaved family said, `The apparently good relationship revealed in Kakao Talk and others is just a defensive attitude not to upset the boss at work.' `In reality, Oyoanna suffered from constant verbal abuse and unfair instructions, and has complained of mental pain" countered.

Oyoanna, who joined MBC's open recruitment weatherman in 2021, died in September last year. Since then, allegations of bullying in the workplace have emerged as the bereaved family found a suicide note on Oyoanna's mobile phone that complained of bullying from colleagues. The bereaved family filed a civil lawsuit against three people, including Mr. A, in December last year based on the history of Oyoanna's life conversation and recorded phone calls.

Earlier in May, the Ministry of Employment and Labor announced the results of special labor supervision on MBC, saying there was bullying in the workplace against Oyo Anna" came to a conclusion. However, Oyoanna did not recognize 'workerhood' because she performed her work autonomously without a fixed commuting time, and accordingly, punishment under the Labor Standards Act is difficult.

In response, the bereaved family said "It is questionable whether the investigation has been conducted sufficiently" and "Preliminary, we are also considering claims for damages due to general harassment, not worker characteristics."

The trial was originally scheduled to be ruled without argument due to A's non-response, but two days before the sentencing, A appointed a lawyer and expressed his intention to participate in the lawsuit, and a formal argument was held. The court is scheduled to proceed with the second hearing date on September 23 based on A's rebuttal and the submission of additional evidence from the bereaved family.

Eight months after the incident in May, MBC reported the incident through the 'News Desk" and will take action against those involved and improve the organizational cultureHe apologized, and the contract with Mr. A has been terminated.
