Kim Chang-wan is seriously addicted to alcohol and needs help around him

Singer Kim Chang-wan confessed his alcoholism.

Kim Chang-wan was the first speaker of tvN 'Somehow Adult's 10th anniversary special, which aired on the 1st.

Kim Chang-wan made his debut with the band Sanwoolim in 1977. Sanwoolim opened the beginning of Korea's heavy metal by releasing unconventional music starting with 'What should I do?' In the meantime, he remained a legendary band in Korea by conducting various musical experiments, from children's songs to folk rock discos, such as 'Gaegwang'San Grandpa'. In response, Kim Chang-wan was also awarded the Archive Culture Medal last year at the '2024 Korean Popular Culture and Arts Awards'.

Kim Chang-wan, a former entertainment star, confessed that he had severe alcohol dependence. When he was young, he suffered from alcoholism due to severe employment difficulties.

He said "I was a very serious alcoholic. I have to put down my glass when I'm drunk, but it didn't work out well. I chose a gradual method rather than a simultaneous disconnection. His will is important, but he also needs help around him. I'm getting help from my wife. My wife can't drink a drop of alcohol, but I've never said anything about drinking. Rather, I recommend you to do other things, such as exercise."

Kim Chang-wan also left a historical mark as a singer, but he made another history by working as a radio DJ for 47 years.

Kim Chang-wan said "What an unstable job a singer is. As the years went by after his debut, he became more and more anxious. As I got older, the range of movements gradually decreased. I had little choice, but I took over as a radio DJ by chance. It wasn't that he had exceptional talent or good speech, but he was just sincere. When my juniors asked me what a DJ was, I said, "The person who's there at that time."

Even for such Kim Chang-wan, a crisis has come. In March last year, he was dropped from SBS Power FM 'This is Kim Chang-wan, who has been hosting for 23 years. After a four-month hiatus, Kim Chang-wan has now made a comeback with SBS Love FM 'I'm Kim Chang-wan from 6 p.m.

Kim Chang-wan said "After the morning broadcast, I spent three months without a broadcast, and it was really hard. There was a very solid framework called radio, so I could fulfill many dreams. The boring thing that repeats every day has been both a strength and a driving force for me."
