On the 18th, the Supreme Court held a hearing on the first part of the Supreme Court (Chief Justice Ma Yong-joo) to sentence Yang Hyun-seok, who was indicted on charges of violating the law on aggravated punishment for specific crimes (compelling retaliatory threats, interviews, etc.).
On this day, the court sentenced Yang Hyun-suk to probation.
Yang Hyun-seok is accused of trying to appease the investigation by threatening Han Seo-hee by cajoling her when public interest reporter Han Seo-hee reported to the police that she was a member of the icon at the time. Han Seo-hee claimed that the police did not investigate properly even though they knew about B.I's drug purchase and medication situation, and Yang Hyun-seok called him to YG's office building and threatened him, saying, `It's not even a job to bury you in the entertainment industry,' and urged him to reverse his statement by attaching a lawyer.
Han Seo-hee reported the case to the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission in 2019, and the prosecution's investigation has since resumed.
The first trial court acquitted Yang Hyun-seok in 2022, saying it was not proved that his remarks gave Han Seo-hee fear. He also pointed out that Han Seo-hee's statement has been changed several times, reducing her credibility, and that she expected monetary compensation after Han Seo-hee reversed her statement.
The second trial court also found Yang Hyun-suk not guilty of retaliation threats. However, he was found guilty of the charges of coercion of interviews added during the second trial and sentenced Yang Hyun-seok to six months in prison and one year of probation in 2023.
Yang Hyun-seok appealed against the second trial's ruling, but was eventually sentenced to probation.
Yang Hyun-seok "I regret the Supreme Court's ruling, but I humbly accept it. Both the first and second trials were found not guilty of the crime of threatening retaliation, but the prosecution changed the charges to the unfamiliar crime of forcing an interview during the second trial, which led to the Supreme Court's final ruling after a long legal debate that lasted five years and eight months. I will focus on my original work in a more cautious and responsible manner in the future," he said.
B.I was sentenced to three years in prison and four years of probation in 2021 for purchasing LSD and cannabis through Han Seo-hee in April 2016 and inhaling some of them several times.
