The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Seoul said Bishop Yoo Kyung-chon Timoteo died of illness at around 0:28 p.m. at Seoul St. Mary's Hospital. While battling biliary tract cancer, the deceased reportedly underwent surgery to remove part of the bile duct, duodenum, and pancreas last year and continued chemotherapy.
Born in Seoul in 1962, Bishop Yoo Kyung-chon Timoteo graduated from Seoul Catholic University and studied in Germany to obtain a doctorate in theology. After being ordained a priest in 1992, he served as a professor at Catholic University, the head of the Seoul Archdiocese's Integrated Private Tree Research Institute, and the head priest of the main hall in Myeongil-dong, and was appointed as an assistant bishop of the Seoul Archdiocese by Pope Francis in 2013.
The deceased has lived a life of trying to be with the socially disadvantaged and the suffering. In the first anniversary of the Itaewon disaster in 2023, he emphasized the need for comfort and social consideration for the bereaved family, giving a deep resonance.

Yoo In-chon and former Minister Yoo In-chon are two brothers who are one year younger than each other, and the two brothers have been active in their respective domains. Former Minister Yoo In-chon is a former theater actor, served as the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism during the Lee Myung Bak government, and is still involved in various cultural and artistic activities.
The mortuary of the deceased will be set up at the underground cathedral of Myeongdong Cathedral in Seoul, and the funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on the 18th at Myeongdong Cathedral, officiated by Archbishop Jeong Soon-taek, the chief of the Archdiocese of Seoul, and the burial site is the tomb of a Catholic priest in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province.
