On the 21st, a final trial was held for Hwang Jung-eum, who was handed over to trial on charges of violating the law on aggravated punishment of specific economic crimes, etc. at the hearing of the Jeju District Court's Criminal Division 2 (Chief Judge Lim Jae-nam). On this day, the prosecution asked the court to sentence Hwang Jung-eum to three years in prison.
Hwang Jung-eum borrowed 800 million won in 2022 under the name of the agency 'Hunminjeongeum Entertainment', a family corporation in which she owns 100% of the shares, and transferred 700 million won to her personal account in the name of provisional payments and started investing in virtual currency. After that, he was accused of embezzling a total of 4.34 billion won until December of the same year. Of these, 4.2 billion won was spent on virtual currency investment and the rest was spent on property taxes and local tax card payments.
Hwang Jung-eum admitted all the charges at the first hearing in May, disposing of his personal property and reimbursing the entire embezzlement on two occasions, May 30 and June 5.
In response, the prosecution decided the sentence in consideration of the normal relationship" he said.
A sentencing hearing for Hwang Jung-eum is scheduled to be held in September.
