1.4 billion Indian fans are fascinated by Byun Woo-seok..CJ ENM, Amazon join hands to target Indian market

CJ ENM is further strengthening its position in the global market by expanding content distribution through strengthening partnerships with Amazon.

CJ ENM announced that it will sequentially supply 18 pieces of K-content to Amazon MX Player, an advertising-based free OTT (AVOD) platform in India, starting September 8. By next year, it will introduce proven content loved by countries around the world, including the sensational drama `Bounce on Sunjae' last year.

CJ ENM content supplied to Amazon MX players is dubbed in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu in consideration of India's various regional languages and cultural characteristics.

This cooperation is the first partnership with CJ ENM since Amazon acquired MX Player, an OTT platform in India, last year, and is expected to be an important opportunity to accelerate the global expansion of K contents. In particular, India's OTT market, which has the world's largest population of 1.4 billion, is developing around low-cost pricing plan and advertising-based free models (AVOD), and is considered a market with enormous potential as it grows rapidly every year along with the expansion of digital infrastructure.

Amogh Dusad, Amazon MX Player Content Director, wrote, "In India, interest and demand for Korean dramas are growing rapidly, so 18 premium K contents, including recent box office hits, were introduced to Indian viewers through an advertisement-based free OTT platform."It includes many of the first works to be released in India, and we are very pleased to be able to provide free content with global stories to viewers in local languages."

"This expansion of content distribution is a valuable opportunity to reach new viewers," said Kim Do-hyun, head of CJ ENM's global distribution division. "We look forward to further communicating with Indian viewers through partnerships with Amazon MX players and globally recognized works."

K Content, a remake of CJ ENM's original IP, is also receiving great response in India. 'Duranga', a remake of 'Flower of Evil', was popularly aired until season 2 on OTT ZEE5 in India, while 'Gyaarah Gyaarah', an adaptation of 'Signal', was loved as one of the most watched shows last year.

Meanwhile, CJ ENM, which declared 2025 as the first year of global acceleration, is expanding K content distribution by utilizing its omnidirectional partnership with global OTT. In fact, it signed a strategic partnership with Amazon Prime Video in May to establish a cooperative relationship that provides various content IPs from existing popular dramas to new dramas.
