Oh Sang-min, the brother of the deceased, posted on his SNS on August 31st that `In the meantime, we have delivered the request to MBC and urged them to solve the problem. MBC said it would give an answer after discussion at the executive meeting, but there has been no contact so far."
At the same time, he insisted on MBC's move, `It is not showing a willingness to solve the problem.'
He then declared a memorial week ahead of the first anniversary of September 15 and tried to start a struggle""On the day of broadcasting on September 3rd, we will announce a petition for the Memorial Week Struggle Solidarity and hold a press conference on September 8th. We ask for your interest and participation in the life-sustaining of the appeal and attending the press conference."
On the 22nd of last month, the bereaved family met with MBC's working-level staff and delivered demands including an official apology, measures to prevent a recurrence, awarding an honorary employee certificate to Oyoanna, providing an in-house memorial space, and making a weatherman full-time.
However, he decided to fight after judging that he did not receive any response from MBC. The deceased's mother also announced a hunger strike in front of MBC in an interview with Hankyoreh on the 29th of last month.
Oyoanna joined the MBC open recruitment weatherman in 2021 and died in September last year at the age of 28. The suicide note found on the deceased's mobile phone two months after his death caused a social stir by suggesting bullying in the workplace. MBC set up a fact-finding committee to terminate the contract with freelance weatherman A after the investigation, and the bereaved family also filed a civil lawsuit against A, but A completely denies the allegations.
