A federal court in southern New York sentenced Sean Diddy Combs to 50 months in prison (four years and two months) and five years probation.
A federal court in southern New York sentenced Sean Diddy Combs to prison for transferring several people, including his girlfriend and sex workers, across state lines to mediate paid prostitution.
Judge Subramanian, in his sentencing, lambasted Sean Diddy Combs for being deliberate and persistent, saying, `You are not just a sex buyer, you are the one who organized these acts with money.' "I abused the victims physically, emotionally, and psychologically," he said.
Sean Diddy Combs said in a 12-minute closing statement at the trial that `My actions were disgusting, shameful and pathological," he cried and appealed for leniency. He said "No matter what anyone says, I truly regret everything"I ask for mercy."
Sean Diddy Combs' attorney tried to downplay the charges, saying, `This case is exaggerated.' However, the court decided to imprison him based on the testimony of a total of 34 people, including victims and witnesses. On the other hand, in a jury trial in July, three out of five charges were found not guilty. The reason was that there was a lack of coercion for felonies such as coercion of prostitution and conspiracy of criminal groups.
Sean Diddy Combs was arrested in September 2023 and has been held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in New York so far, where he will serve an additional three years under his current sentence. If recognized as a model prisoner, there is a possibility of early release in 2028.
Singer Cathy (real name Cassandra Ventura), who is considered a key victim of the Sean Diddy Combs case, evaluated "This sentence cannot fully reverse Sean Diddy Combs' crimes, but it is a decision that recognizes social responsibility for his actions."
Shawn Diddy Combs has made a name for himself as a hip hop producer and rapper since the 1990s. As the founder of Badboy Records, he has been a billionaire by expanding his business to clothing and liquor brands in addition to the music industry, but has been hit hard by a series of sexual violence civil lawsuits and criminal charges over the past few years.
In particular, in May 2023, CCTV footage of assaulting his then girlfriend Cathy in the hallway of the LA hotel in 2016 sparked controversy. Since then, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has raided Sean Diddy Combs' homes in Miami and LA, and federal prosecutors arrested him in September of the same year, and judicial proceedings began in earnest.
The New York Times reported on the ruling that `a symbolic example of a person who once stood at the top of the music industry collapsing in the shadow of an empire he built.'
