Taiwanese entertainment media Sanli News reported on the 13th (local time) that rumors of Chris' death are spreading rapidly through Chinese social network service (SNS) Weibo.
According to reports, a man who claims to be Chris's motive in prison reportedly wrote on Weibo that `It is true that Chris died.' A few days ago, prison guards secretly told him that Wu Yi-fan died suddenly", "There are rumors that he was sexually assaulted by a group, and there are rumors that he was killed because he failed to satisfy a prison official." posted the article.
Another anonymous user ignited the spread of rumors of death, claiming that he died while fasting for a long time.
This is not the first time Wu Yi Pan has died. In March, when the Canadian government announced that four Canadian nationals had been executed in China, speculation was raised that Chris, who has Canadian citizenship, might have been the target of execution. However, the charges of the four people who were executed at the time were 'narcotics trafficking', which is known to have nothing to do with Chris.
So far, Chris's death has not been officially confirmed.
Only unconfirmed speculation and anonymous writing are spreading rapidly online.
Chris gained global popularity after his debut as an EXO in 2012, but left the team in 2014 when he filed a lawsuit against SM Entertainment for the absence of an exclusive contract.
Since then, he has been active in China under the name of 'Wu Yi Pan' and has achieved great success as an actor and singer.
However, in December 2020, allegations of sexual crimes against a total of three women were revealed, including sexual assault on a drunk woman at her home, and 17-year-old influencer Meizu revealed the damage, shaking Chinese society.
Chris was charged with rape and collective obscenity in 2022 and is serving a 13-year prison sentence.
