On the 21st (local time), the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) released a list of 35 works that met the nominations for feature-length animated films. Released on Netflix, 'Kedeheon' has met Oscar nominations with small theatrical releases in New York, Los Angeles (LA) and San Francisco in June.
In addition to 'Kedeheon', Disney works 'Elio', 'Zootopia 2', Japanese animation 'The Blade of Extinction in the Theater: Infinite Star' and 'The Theater's Chainsaw Man: Les Jets' were also nominated in the feature animation category. On the other hand, the Chinese animation 'Nuja 2', which was screened in the U.S., did not qualify as a candidate.
Netflix produced its first Academy Award for Best Animated Feature with its 2022 film 'Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio'. The official nominees for the 98th Academy Awards for animation will be announced on January 22 next year. The Associated Press and other U.S. media predicted that there is a high possibility of winning 'Kedeheon' in the feature animation and theme song categories. However, in the UK, the theatrical release of 'Kedeheon' did not meet the requirements for BAFTA candidates.
Meanwhile, AMPAS also released a list of works that qualified for the international feature film and documentary categories. In the International Feature Film category, representative works from 86 countries and regions, including Korea, were submitted, and Korean works directed by Park Chan-wook ' can't be helped' is included. The 10 shortlists for international feature films and documentaries will be announced on December 16.
The 98th Academy Awards will be held on March 15 next year.
