Unlicensed Driver Jung Dong-won Suspends Prosecution...a 16-year-old minor

Singer Jung Dong-won has been suspended from prosecution for driving without a license.

On the 6th, the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office suspended the prosecution of Jung Dong-won, who was indicted on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act (driving without a license).

The suspension of prosecution is a non-prosecution decision that is not handed over to trial even if the charges are admitted. The prosecution decided not to go to trial considering that Jung Dong-won was a minor at the time and a first-time offender, although it is true that Jung Dong-won drove without a license.

Jung Dong-won was accused of driving a vehicle without a license on a road in Hadong, South Gyeongsang Province, in 2023. Jung Dong-won was born on March 19, 2007, and was 16 years old at the time of the incident. According to Article 82 of the Road Traffic Act, people under the age of 18 cannot obtain a driver's license.

The case was brought to the surface by racketeers. According to Jung Dong-won's agency Showplay, last year, his acquaintance A illegally acquired a mobile phone at Jung Dong-won's house and threatened to pay more than 200 million won in exchange for his silence, saying he would distribute the driving video in the photo album. Jeong Dong-won refused to comply and reported a group of blackmailers to the police with the determination to face legal punishment. The group is currently in custody and on trial.

Jung Dong-won gained popularity in 2020 by finishing fifth in the TV Chosun 'Mr. Trot'. However, he was caught riding a motorcycle on a crossroad in eastern Seoul in 2023, causing a stir as he was suspended from prosecution for violating the Road Traffic Act.
