Beyond the musical, into a movie'Wicked' first week of release, 650,000 viewers



The movie 'Wicked' rose to the top of the box office in the first week of its release, signaling a box office hit.

According to the Korea Film Council's integrated computer network of movie theater tickets on the 25th, 'Wicked' topped the box office for five consecutive days since its release, surpassing 652,281 cumulative viewers. This is a record that overtook Korean films 'Hidden Face' and foreign films 'Gladiator 2', and the main box office factor is that it provided a cinematic experience beyond musicals.

'Wicked' maximized the audience's immersion with various formats such as IMAX, ScreenX, 4DX, Dolby, and original and Korean cast versions. After watching the movie, visitors responded that they wanted to shout applause and encores like a curtain call of a musical performance, continuing to praise the cost-effectiveness of tickets.




The movie depicts the crises and adventures that green witches 'Elphaba'(Cynthia Erivo) and blonde witches 'Ginda'(Ariana Grande) face in the process of building a friendship. It is evaluated that the two main characters' colorful performances and moving narratives added to the box office fever.

'Wicked' is in a rave screening in theaters across the country.
