Director Yang Woo-seok's warm growth story, film 'Big Family'

Director Yang Woo-seok met with Sports Chosun at a place in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul on the morning of the 4th and talked about the movie 'extra-family'.
The movie 'The Big Family' is a family comedy in which cute grandchildren who have never seen the world come to the owner (Kim Yoon-seok) of the dumpling restaurant 'Pyeong Man-ok' because of his son (Lee Seung-ki) who became a monk.
Yang has been producing films with messages about society through the films 'The Attorney' and 'Steel Rain' series. On the other hand, this movie has attracted attention by returning to a more familiar subject called family.
However, Yang said he wanted to tell the story that is most needed in the present era through 'extraordinary family'. He worked on his work for the past 10 years with the mindset that he should tell a story that is necessary for society"The "lawyer" was a story about a lawyer shouting at his colleagues who did not obey the law to obey the law, and the "steel rain" series began with the idea of showing the security crisis on the Korean Peninsula in a simulation manner," he recalled.

Director Yang also pointed out that the form and meaning of the family have changed rapidly in recent decades. The time has come when one family has to take care of another." This awareness of the problem became the starting point of 'extraordinary family'.
Director Yang's concerns can also be seen in the title of `Large Family.' 'Large family' has an important meaning. Director Yang said, `It doesn't just mean a large family, it also includes asking about and thinking about the family""As the director explains, the film will explore the nature of the family and show how family relationships can change and grow.
Here, the characters in the play define and find their families in their own way. His son Ham Moon-seok (Lee Seung-ki), who became a monk, finds the meaning of his family in Buddhist scriptures, and the main character Ham Moo-ok (Kim Yoon-seok) realizes that the world has raised him. Director Yang said, "We are a part of the world, but we are also a world." The work tells the story of the world expanding into a family beyond a family in a narrow sense," he said.
In addition, 'extra-family' melted the family's conflict and reconciliation with warm humor. Director Yang said, `Family is not as beautiful and perfect as it is in Disney movies. Complex beings mixed with conflict, complexity, and trauma. "Nevertheless, I wanted to show you how to overcome the wounds of your family and grow up." he said.
Finally, Yang said "I hope that through our film, we can look back on the meaning of the family we have and experience growth and reconciliation within it."
The movie 'The Big Family' will be released on December 11th.
