Director Barry Jenkins talked about the message he wanted to convey to the audience through the movie 'Mupasa: The Lion King'.
Released on the 18th, 'Mupasa: The Lion King' is the 30th anniversary of the birth of the original Disney animation 'The Lion King' and the prequel of 'The Lion King'. The story of Mufasa, a young lion orphaned in the wild, who goes beyond his given destiny to become the king of the world after meeting the king's descendant and his expected successor, Taka (Scar), is directed by Barry Jenkins, who won the Best Picture award at the 89th Academy Awards for the film Moonlight. On top of that, Jeff Nadanson, who wrote the previous work 'The Lion King', predicted that he would participate in the screenplay and show more complete storytelling.

Director Barry Jenkins explained why he directed 'Mufasa: The Lion King'. He said "The characters are all animals, and the scale of production has grown."Mupasa: The Lion King" was not much different from the topics I've been dealing with so far. I was given a bigger canvas and accepted it as an opportunity for the audience to fully realize their dreams with a theme they loved," he said.
I would then like to say that "Mufasa: The Lion King" is a hybrid of animation and live action"It was a new challenge for me, but this work would have been a new challenge for any director in the sense of using cutting-edge technology and introducing new methods. I started with an open mind from the first time I said I was going to start this project."
Director Barry Jenkins, who was a fan of the original film, said, "It's an animation, but it came more powerful because it transparently and clearly expresses complex human emotions that children can understand"In the original work, Mufasa is good, Scar is evil, and the confrontation between good and evil is clear. This time, we tried to give complexity by evolving the dichotomous composition a little more through which the characters go toward the good and the evil."

As for the part that focuses on directing "1994 wasn't it simple for young children to learn from images. Now, I think it is necessary to add the complexity of the lessons that young friends accept in the composition of good and evil and in the era of image flooding. Ska also had a childhood and was a lion cub who deserved to be loved, but he directed it in a modern context, showing the complex journey of becoming an evil character in the whirlwind of the world."
Director Barry Jenkins said of Mufasa's relationship with Taka, `What impressed me about the relationship between the two brothers was what kind of life they had and what kind of person they would become because of the different family structures"Mupasa receives learning from his mother, and Taka receives learning from his father. Mufasa says, 'All the elements around you, the animals and you must be one' is taught to emphasize equality, but Taka is taught by his father that 'You must reign over them. All the elements are all under you. If necessary, it should be ruled by deception'Learn to..."
In addition, regarding the difference between the two brothers "Mupasa is reborn as a better person, and Taka enters the path of a villain. It's very important what we can learn by showing these things, and it's very impressive." It's very interesting that people's lives are changed by the difference between their innate temperament and parenting style. If Mufasa had been taught by his father and Taka had been raised by his mother, it would also raise the interesting question of whether Scar could have become a great king and Mufasa could have become a villain."

These parts are reminiscent of Bong Joon-ho's `Parasite.' If the families in the movie were privileged, not the lowest class, they wouldn't have deceived people to achieve their desired goals in that way."'Mupasa: The Lion King' was also an interesting work to realize how people can change based on such social status or environment" expressed satisfaction.
