‘The First Night With the Duke’ Raises Expectations With a Bold Cast and Twisted Romance

‘The First Night With the Duke’ raised expectations by revealing characters with great personality that will firmly support the world view of romance novels.

KBS2's new Wednesday-Thursday drama ‘The First Night With the Duke’  (directed by Lee Woong-hee, Kang Soo-yeon, scripted by Jeon Sun-young) is a romance fantasy story in which a minor role in a romance novel with the soul of an ordinary female college student spends a night with a most obsessed male.

The main character of the play is the second best role (played by Seo Hyun) in the novel. In reality, female college student K is possessed, and after the first night, the obsession of this cold-blooded male character (Ok Taek-yeon) begins, unfolding an unpredictable romance. In addition, Cho Eun-ae (Kwon Sol), Jung Soo-gyeom (Seo Beom-jun), and Dohwaseon (Ji Hye-won) are intertwined to form an interesting relationship.

In particular, Cho Eun-ae becomes a reliable friend of the next best thing as a lover of the novel before K is possessed, and Jung Soo-gyeom, a sub-boy who has a crush on her, feels complicated by the appearance of the next best thing. The fuse, which is in love with this time, creates a tense tension by showing restraint to the next best.

The Cha family, the next best family, also catches the attention of viewers. Cha Ho-yeol (Seo Hyun-chul), the father of his daughter, and Yoon Deok-jeong (Yoon Yoo-sun), the elegant and determined mother, will be a strong fence, and his three brothers will also show the essence of his sister-in-law. The first Cha Jang-ho (Lee Sang-woon) adds dignity as the head of the family, the second Cha Doo-ho (Kim Shin-bi) adds a pleasant charm as a poor detective, and the youngest Cha Se-ho (Yoon Jung-hoon).

In addition, the royal family and the ruling forces involved in Gyeongseong-gun increase tension. The complex power structure is intertwined with Seoljong (Ju Sang-tae) who ascended the throne, Nam Ki-ae (Nam Ki-ae), royal relatives Bae Bae-myeong (Jeong Hee-tae), conservative Do Seung-ji Moon-seok (Jeong Ho-bin), and Cho Byung-moo (Kim Young-woong), a colossus and Cho Eun-ae's foster father, adding to the sense of immersion.

Ma Yoon (Yoon Tae-ha), a loyal henchman who stands by him this time, and Haengrang-abum (Song Young-jae), who has seen him since childhood, act as a person who reflects the inner side of Gyeongseong-gun, adding depth to the play. On top of that, Sung Hyun-gun Lee Gyu (Lee Tae-sun), who is involved with the next best option in the past, appears, creating tension.

The unknown little boy (Lee Joo-won) and the shaman Seol-gi (Kim Ah-young) also appear at every second best and fateful moment, creating a mysterious atmosphere and stimulating viewers' curiosity.

'I took the first night of the Southern states' premieres June 11 at 9:50 p.m.
