It's been a long time since we've seen a Korean movie in crisis. Three Korean movies have heated up Toronto's night, starting with the Netflix crime thriller 'Good News' (directed by Byun Sung-hyun, Star Platinum), the mystery film 'Face' (directed by Yeon Sang-ho, produced by Wow Point), and the girl crush crime film 'Project Y' (directed by Lee Hwan, produced by Climax Studio, produced by Wow Point).

The Toronto Film Festival is the largest film festival in North America that introduces new films of various genres and styles. It is one of the world's four major international film festivals along with Cannes, Berlin, and Venice to introduce new well-made films around the world that are recognized for their work, regardless of capital, genre, and nationality, such as commercial films, independent films, and art films. This year's 50th Toronto Film Festival will be held from September 4 to September 14 in Toronto, Canada.

Again this year, the Toronto Film Festival will feature three highly anticipated Korean films through the special presentation section. The special presentation section is a section that introduces anticipated works that are attracting worldwide attention and highlights outstanding works from various genres. The Toronto Film Festival will showcase the world's best friends, Seol Kyung-gu and Hong Kyung-gu's 「Good News」, Park Jung-min's two-person challenge"Face" and Han So-hee and Jeon Jong-seo's"Project Y" for the first time in the world.

First, 'Good News' is a work about the suspicious operation of people gathered in the 1970s to land a hijacked plane at all costs.

Previously, director Byun Sung-hyun's next film with a stylish crime noir through 'Bulhan: The World of Bad Guys' in 2017, is expected to be an intense and fresh combination of Seol Gyeong-gu, Hong-kyung, and Ryu Seung-beom. It is expected that his persona Seol Kyung-gu, directed by Byun Sung-hyun, will portray the scuffles, conflicts, and ever-changing relationship of characters engaged in secret operations over the hijacking of the plane.




Cameron Bailey, executive chairman of the Toronto Film Festival, explained the reason for the invitation of the "Good News", saying, "It is a film that stands out for innovation, authenticity, and global perspective, a philosophy that the festival has observed for the past 50 years."

Park Jung-min, who became a "acting genius", became the talk of the town as he tried to play two roles. 'Face' deals with the mystery of Lim Young-kyu (Kwon Hae-hyo), the master of making the world's most beautiful seal, and his son Lim Dong-hwan (Park Jung-min), who went missing 40 years ago, facing the white-bone body of his wife and mother, Jung Young-hee (Shin Hyun-bin). It shows the scenery and figures of the Cheonggyecheon clothing factory in the 1970s.

Director Yeon Sang-ho, who captivated the world beyond Korea by being invited to the Cannes Film Festival starting with the first feature-length animation 'King of Pigs'Train to Busan'Pandae', will be officially invited to the Toronto Film Festival for the third time after his previous film 'Pseudo'Hell' with his live-action film 'Face' that he wrote and drew in 2018.




Regarding the invitation of 'Face', Giovanna Fulby, chief programmer of the Toronto Film Festival, is pleased to invite director Yeon Sang-ho, one of Korea's most pioneering and influential directors, to introduce his new work 'Face' in Toronto. Based on Yeon Sang-ho's first graphic novel 'Face', the film shows a bold turning point in Yeon Sang-ho's filmography, but also shows the intense energy and moral complexity that has penetrated his works.

Finally, 'Project Y', which will show the essence of K-womance, was also selected as a work to shine at the Toronto Film Festival. 'Project Y' is a story about two women who have only each other's possessions, stealing hidden black money and gold bars to escape from the reality at the bottom.

Project Y is a highly anticipated film this year with the intense warm-mance chemistry and new transformation of Han So-hee and Jeon Jong-seo, who captivated the audience with their unique acting and unrivaled charm in each work. Director Lee Hwan of 'Adults Don't Know'Park Hwa-young', who drew attention for his unconventional subject matter and strong directing, participates as the director and draws attention.
