30th BIFF Chairman Park Kwang-soo will establish a new competition section this year to reduce his reluctance to the film festival

Park Kwang-soo, chairman of the board, mentioned the differences unique to the 30th Busan International Film Festival.

At a press conference to host the 30th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) held at the Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Jung-gu, Seoul on the 26th, Chairman Park said, `We will try to take a new approach to the relationship between the audience and the theater.'

The Busan International Film Festival, which was launched as a non-competitive film festival in 1996, marked its 30th anniversary this year and announced a new start as a competitive film festival. Chairman Park said, `This year, the competition sector was created for the first time. The films that participated in the competition section of 14 films will hold a press conference. We will work hard to realize the identity of the festival called 'Vision of Asian Films' in a realistic way.'"Some of the films that participated in the competition have already won awards at leading overseas film festivals, while others will be unveiled for the first time at the Busan International Film Festival." All will be re-evaluated from the perspective of Asians, and some of the judges are not Asian" he said.

This year's Busan International Film Festival has a total of 241 official screenings. Compared to last year, it has increased 17 episodes. Including the screenings of Community Beef, a related program, the total number of screenings is 328. Chairman Park said, `Every time I go to a film festival, I can feel the unique atmosphere. However, there are cases where this part gives a feeling of rejection to people who watch the movie. It seems that they feel rejected by the empirical mechanism of the film festival itself. We will take a new approach to the relationship between the audience and the theater," he said.
