‘K-Pop Demon Hunters’ Breaks Netflix Film Record in 10th Week



Netflix animation 'K-pop Demon Hunters' (directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans) has written a new history.

According to To Doom, Netflix's official site, 'K-Pop Demon Hunters' has accumulated 236 million viewers so far in its 10th week, ranking first in the movie category. Previously, Dwayne Johnson's lead role 'Red Notice' (directed by Lawson Marshall Tuber), which was released in 2021, was the number one hit in the Netflix film category for four years. The `Red Notice' hit 230.9 million cumulative views and 454.2 million cumulative viewing hours, showing off the unwavering 'No. 1 viewer rating in the Netflix movie category, but 'K-pop Demon Hunters" broke the record and fell to second place.

In addition, 'K-pop Demon Hunters" attracted attention as it ranked third in history after Hwang Dong-hyuk's `Squid Game' (265.2 million views) and 'Wendday" (252.1 million views), which are all-time records for Netflix.




The industry is looking forward to seeing whether 'K-pop Demon Hunters', which continues to have explosive syndromes such as Singer Long, will break the record of 'Squid Game' and be able to reach '300 million views for the first time in the history of Netflix movies.

Meanwhile, 'K-pop Demon Hunters' is an action fantasy animation about Huntrix members Rumi (Arden Cho), Mira (May Hong), and Joey (Yoo Ji-young), who are K-pop boy groups by day and secretly exorcist by night, defeating the lion boys who become evil spirits and threaten humanity at night. It is the first overseas production animation based on domestic K-pop idols and the first musical animation using K-pop music in history.

Released worldwide on Netflix on June 20, 'K-Pop Demon Hunters' is setting a new mega-hit record every day. Reinterpreting exorcism idols with shaman motifs as modern urban fantasy heroes 'K-Pop Demon Hunters' has naturally melted Korean culture that encompasses traditions and modern times, including Namsan Seoul Tower, K-Food, Sine Sword, Ilwol Obongdo, Magpie Tiger (Jakho-do), and tile-roofed houses, earning favorable reviews from viewers around the world.




The OST, which is the biggest contributor to the success of 'K-Pop Demon Hunters', has also made a new history. Eight songs on the OST were simultaneously charted on the Billboard Hot 100, and in particular, Huntrix's song 'Golden' was ranked No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States.
