‘The Ugly’ Unveiled Low-Budget Mystery Joins TIFF Special Presentations

Director Yeon Sang-ho said "A low-budget movie made with 200 million won, it was the most suitable method of production."

On the morning of the 22nd, a press conference was held at Lotte Cinema Konkuk University branch in Jayang-dong, Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, on the production of the mystery film 'Face' (directed by Yeon Sang-ho and produced by Wow Point). The production briefing session was attended by Park Jung-min, who played two roles including Lim Young-kyu's young age and his son Lim Dong-hwan, and Kwon Hae-hyo, who played the present role of Lim Young-kyu, Shin Hyun-bin, who has never seen the face of her husband Lim Young-kyu and her son Dong-hwan, Lim Sung-jae, the president of the Cheonggyecheon sheath factory where Jung Young-hee worked, Han Ji-hyun, who directed a documentary about the life of Lim Dong-hwan, and director Yeon Sang-ho.

Director Yeon Sang-ho said, "'Face' was made into a cartoon first, and I always thought about making a video. The emotion on the face is very precious. I decided to direct because I wanted to feel these emotions with the audience. There are so many media these days, and if we don't achieve the diversification of the way we make movies, I probably can't make movies anymore. I wanted to challenge the way I made movies in various ways, so I came to make 'The Ugly'," he said.

The actors and production team had only about 20 people, who had two weeks of pre-production and 13th shootings, and a low budget production cost of 200 million won "Our movie was a mobile movie. Actors and production teams were able to share intuitive opinions and create a new god. It was a perfect production style for this movie"I was confident.

Formally invited to the 50th Toronto International Film Festival Special Presentation Section, 'Face' tells the story of a blind but reborn man, a master of all fields, and his son digging into the mystery of the death of his wife and mother, who have been buried for 40 years. Park Jung-min, Kwon Hae-hyo, Shin Hyun-bin, Lim Sung-jae, and Han Ji-hyun appeared, and Yeon Sang-ho, director of 'Train to Busan'Ban Peninsula', took the megaphone. It will be released on September 11.
