We're all the same human beings... Same-sex marriage Yoon Yeo-jung's experience as a parent at the wedding reception (Roundup)

Actress Yoon Yeo-jung presents a movie that melts her experiences as a parent to domestic audiences.

The press conference for the movie 'Marriage Wedding Reception' was held at the Beef Hill press conference in Udong, Haeundae-gu, Busan on the 19th. Actors Yoon Yeo-jung, Han Ki-chan and Andrew Ahn attended the scene.

'Marriage Wedding reception' was officially invited to the World Cinema section of the 30th Busan International Film Festival. It is an unpredictable comedy that takes place when a K-grandmother appears in the fake wedding plan of the two same-sex couples, and Korean-American director Andrew Ahn took the megaphone.

Director Andrew Ahn said, `It's my first time at the Busan International Film Festival, and it's a great experience to be with such great actors.' Yoon Yeo-jeong said, "I came here two years ago and I'm not as moved as Andrew (laughs)," adding, "Because there are people who love movies, I thought (the Busan International Film Festival) could have gone on for 30 years."I expressed my pride.

'Marriage Wedding reception' is a modern remake of Ian's 1993 work of the same name. Director Andrew Ahn added a perspective appropriate to the times while maintaining the sensibility of the original work, and captured Korean elements. He first saw the film about homosexuality through director Ian's work in '93. It's a very meaningful movie, but I didn't know it at the time."But as a person and a film person, I was greatly influenced by this work. I didn't think I should do a remake because I liked the movie. Many things have changed since 1993, and in the United States, same-sex marriage is possible, so there are many friends who have started a family."

Then "As a queer, I'm thinking about getting married and becoming a father."I was wondering how to express hope and anxiety in the work. It's true that there are challenges that we have to face compared to others."

Yoon Yeo-jeong plays the role of a grandmother who embraces her gay grandson, Min. He "When I first got the offer from Andrew, it was my mother's role. I thought it would be okay as a mother, but she (Han Ki-chan) was in her 20s. So I said, "This is too much, so I said I'd rather be a grandmother."

As for the reason for choosing the work, "I have a relationship with a Korean director, and since I am Korean, I am proud to see these friends grow up and make the work. I wanted to help when I could. Unlike commercial films, independent films can talk a lot with the director"It's an atmosphere where we're all making the work together, so we can't talk about it." I tried to talk about Koreans that the director knows, Koreans that I know, and also to tell the stories of my parents and my experiences as parents."

As for his role "He's an ordinary character. You can't be a person who plans from the time I act. If you read a lot of the script, you will know the character of the character and play the role by thinking about how you want to express it. "I don't know if the role I expressed was different (from other grandmother characters)."

Han Ki-chan played Min, the grandson of a self-employed man and the mastermind of a fake wedding scheme. Prior to the 'Marriage Wedding reception', he played a gay character in the web drama 'Where Your Eyes Stay', which was released in 2020. In response, Han Ki-chan "In fact, it was not easier to perform queer for the first time in another work than this one. At that time, I joined "Marriage Wedding reception" because (the queer material) was unusual." I always say inside the company that if there is an English script, please give me the script right away without asking if it is possible to speak English. I thought that I wanted to melt my language skills into my work."

Yoon Yeo-jeong confessed that her first son was gay in an interview with local media in April this year to commemorate the release of the film 'Marriage Reception'. At the time, he held his son's wedding ceremony when same-sex marriage was legalized in New York City. In Korea, the whole family came to New York because it was still a secret. I don't know how people in their hometown will react. Maybe he'll throw a book at me," he said. At the same time, he gave solid support, saying, `Now I love my son-in-law more than my son-in-law.'

Yoon Yo-jong said of the LGBTQ culture in Korea, `I think gay or straight people should be equal. It seems that Koreans have not gone further in this culture yet. I've lived in Korea for 79 years, so I know it well. Of course, I know it won't be easy. However, we should not separate straight people from gay people from black people from white people, he said. "We are all the same human beings."

Meanwhile, the 30th Busan International Film Festival will be held for 10 days from the 17th to the 26th around the Film Center in Haeundae-gu, Busan. The wedding reception will be released on the 24th.
