Korea's leading OTT TVing announced on the 4th that it will officially launch the TVING Collection on Disney+ (hereinafter referred to as the TVing Collection) within Japan's Disney+ in a strategic partnership with global OTT platform Disney+ on the 5th. Disney+'s opening of its local OTT brand view in the Asia-Pacific region is the first to prove the global influence of K contents and the possibility of K-OTT.
Japan is a key market where global OTTs compete fiercely, and Disney+ is building high trust and fandom based on its unique brand power in Japan. Disney+ is said to be a win-win in that it tries to differentiate itself by combining K-content, which is gaining explosive popularity in its blockbuster global and local content, while TVing minimizes the risk of entering the local market and secures awareness as a representative platform for K-content. The two companies plan to continue various strategic cooperation to provide users with a more differentiated viewing experience in the future.
The TVing Collection, which will be introduced in Disney+ in Japan from the 5th, is an official hub where Japanese users can easily meet TVing's original content. From the original TVing to CJ ENM's representative box office hits, the overwhelming content lineup will be released sequentially. As TVing's global stride expands, domestic creators and production companies are expected to gain more momentum in their global expansion.
In line with its global expansion, TVing will release the original series Dear X for the first time in a total of 19 countries, including Korea, Japan, and Asia-Pacific. Director Lee Eung-bok's directing, actors Kim Yoo-jung and Kim Young-dae's casting combination are added to the original K-webtoon, which is drawing global attention, and the explosive attention of overseas fans is already focused.
"Our partnership with Disney, which has a strong presence and a long history in Japan, is an opportunity to most effectively introduce TVing contents to local viewers. We will continue to make efforts to become a global K-OTT platform beyond Korea's No. 1 by introducing attractive K-content to more global customers around the world," said Choi Joo-hee, CEO of TVing.
Marking the 5th anniversary of Disney+'s service in Japan, Walt Disney Company CEO Tamotsu Hiiro "We are continuing to expand our content lineup that reflects the diverse tastes of viewers."This collaboration with CJ ENM and TVing marks an important milestone in the journey, and by combining attractive Korean storytelling with Disney+'s world-class blockbusters and local popular works, it will provide a richer and more immersive viewing experience for all generations of viewers."
Meanwhile, Tving plans to expand its global presence in global markets such as the United States and South America through various methods, starting with Japan and the Asia-Pacific, by using 2025 as the first year of its overseas market.
