Kim Ho-joong is accused of driving drunk on a road in Apgujeong-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, in May last year and running away after hitting a taxi on the opposite road. There is also a charge of urging the manager, identified only by his surname Jang, to give false information. Lee Kwang-deuk, former CEO of his agency, Thinking Entertainment, and former head of the headquarters are accused of destroying evidence, including removing a black box containing the scene of the accident.
The police sent Kim Ho-joong to the prosecution on charges of drunk driving, but the drunk driving charge was not applied because Kim Ho-joong appeared at the police 17 hours after the incident and drank several times at time intervals.
In November last year, the first trial sentenced Kim Ho-joong to two and a half years in prison on charges of dangerous driving injuries, escape injuries, and inaction after accidents under the Road Traffic Act. Representative Lee and the former head of the headquarters were sentenced to two years in prison and one and a half years in prison, respectively, and manager Jang was sentenced to one year in prison and two years of probation.
In response, Kim Ho-joong immediately appealed, and at the first trial date of the appeals court held last month, he admitted to driving under the influence of alcohol, but strongly denied the drunk driving method.
