NewJeans Members Trademark 'NJZ' Amid ADOR Dispute

The members of the group New Jin's applied for the trademark rights of the new team name NZ.

According to KIPRIS, an intellectual property information search service on the 18th, five Newzins members (Minji, Daniel, Hyein, Haerin, and Hani) registered their trademark rights in 10 categories (advertisement business, goods sales, etc.) related to their group, NJZ, on February 6.

Applicants are Minji, Daniel, Hyein, Harin, and Hani's real names, Minji Kim, Marsh Daniel, Lee Hyein, Kang Haein, and Palmheon Eungok. The application was made through Sejong, a legal representative, and the trademark right is pending examination.

In an interview with CNBC and CNN in the U.S. on Feb. 7, the day after filing for trademark rights, the five members informed Newzins that they had changed their team name to NZ.

In response, the original agency, Adore, announced on the 10th of the same month that the members of the New Jeans planned to work under a group name that was not discussed with Adore, causing a confusing situation and giving various inquiries to reporters. It is a one-sided claim that the exclusive contract with the members of the New Jeans and Adore is legally valid and has been terminated.'

In addition, the Company filed a lawsuit to confirm the validity of the exclusive contract with the provisional disposition recognized that Adore was in the position of a management company (planning company) under the exclusive contract and is awaiting the court's judgment. I would like to ask you to use the official team name 'New Jeans' based on a legitimate contract when writing the article," he said.

In addition, Adore filed a lawsuit against five members of the Seoul Central District Court to confirm the validity of the exclusive contract, saying that the exclusive contract with Newzins is still valid. Subsequently, it has applied for a temporary disposition to preserve the status of an agency and to prohibit the conclusion of an advertising contract.

Meanwhile, NJZ is scheduled to appear at the Asia World Expo in Hong Kong from the 21st to the 23rd, and will release a new song on the 23rd.
