Choo Sung-hoon's father, Choo Chu-yi, died suddenly of a heart attack while playing golf in April 2023. He was 72.

This is how my father felt. It wasn't sad, it was a good opportunity." Choo Sung-hoon said "Asian games meant a lot to me. At that time, my father was the happiest. I put the gold medal together and (I put it in) to take it with me," he added.
