Lee Seung-gi Wins First Trial Against Hook Entertainment Over Unpaid Settlements

In the first trial of the settlement lawsuit between singer and actor Lee Seung-ki and his former agency Hook Entertainment (hereinafter referred to as Hook Entertainment), the court ruled in favor of Lee Seung-ki.

On the 4th, the 20th Civil Agreement Division (Director Lee Se-ra) of the Seoul Central District Court conducted the first trial of Hook Entertainment's lawsuit against Lee Seung-ki to confirm the existence of a debt.

The court dismissed the lawsuit, saying, `Hook Entertainment should pay Lee 587 million won.'

Lee Seung-gi did not attend the trial on this day, and only lawyers for both sides were present.

Earlier in November 2022, Lee Seung-gi sent a certificate of content from Hook, saying he had not received a single penny of music settlement for 18 years since his debut.

CEO Kwon Jin-young and other Hook officials were accused of violating the law on aggravated punishment of specific economic crimes (business embezzlement) and violating the law on aggravated punishment of specific economic crimes (fraud).

Lee Seung-ki said, `Even though celebrities' rights and interests are better than in the past, we cannot rely entirely on agencies. Considering that rookies' standard contracts are seven years, it is practically impossible for artists to raise settlement issues within the extinctive prescription. Please take a look at friends who debut at a young age for their dreams like me so that they don't suffer from settlement payments repeatedly."

In response, Hook Entertainment filed a lawsuit to confirm the existence of a debt, claiming that it paid Lee Seung-ki 2.9 billion won in unpaid settlement and 1.2 billion won in delayed interest.
