Vice Chairman Lee Mi-kyung was awarded the medal for contributing to the creative journey of the global entertainment market and promoting mutual understanding beyond cultural barriers.
The 1986 "Ellis Island Medal of Honor" is an award that honors the contributions of leaders from various backgrounds to American society, and is officially recognized by the U.S. Congress and keeps a Congressional Record in the minutes. Eight previous U.S. presidents, including Ronald Reagan and Joe Biden, as well as prominent figures such as Henry Kissinger and Frank Sinatra, have been on the list of winners.
This year's winners included Vice Chairman Lee Mi-kyung, Academy Award-winning actor Adrian Brody, Nobel Prize winner James Allison, and Pfizer's Albert Bourla chairman.
The Ellis Island Honor Society says it is "extremely pleased to have Vice Chairman Lee Mi-kyung on this year's list of winners." He has reshaped the landscape of the global entertainment industry and played a major role in creating a universal human narrative and bringing the voices of emerging creators to the world stage"The reason for the selection was revealed.
Vice Chairman Lee has led the globalization of the Korean cultural industry over the past 30 years and has greatly increased the international recognition of various contents such as movies, dramas, and music through his role as a bridge between the East and the West. Through these activities, he has received a number of awards, including the ▶ 2022 International Emmy Award for Achievement, ▶ Academy Film Museum Pillar Award, ▶ 2023 Gold Crown Order of Cultural Merit ▶ 2024 Global Citizen Award.
The ceremony will be held on May 11 (Korea time) in New York.
