Starship Wins 50 Million Won in Defamation Suit Against YouTuber Behind 'Taldeok Prison Camp'

Starship Entertainment, the agency of group IVE member Jang Won-young, won part of the first trial of a damage suit filed against the operator of the YouTube channel 'Taldeok Prison Camp'.

At 2 p.m. on the 4th, Judge Choi Mi-young of the Seoul Central District Court ruled partially in favor of the plaintiff, saying, `The defendant (Park) should compensate the plaintiff (Starship Entertainment) 50 million won.'

Starship Entertainment earlier filed a 100 million won lawsuit against Park, the operator of the 「Taldeok concentration camp」.

The Taldeok concentration camp run by Park is a YouTube channel that produces videos based on malicious rumors of idols.

Park is accused of defaming celebrities such as celebrities and influencer by posting videos several times while running the Taldeok concentration camp from October 2021 to June last year.

'Taldeok concentration camp' is a YouTube channel that produces videos based on malicious rumors of idols and has been deleted.

At the trial, Park only expressed his opinion in the video, but did not state the fact, and even if he stated the fact, it was not false, and even if it was false, he posted the video for the public good, believing that the content was true"There was good reason to believe that the content was true, so the illegality was fragmented."

In addition, while he is only a personal YouTuber, the plaintiff, Starship Entertainment, appealed that Starship Entertainment's social reputation and credit were damaged by the video he posted, which could not be considered as infringing on social evaluation or obstructing work, but the court cannot admit that he made and posted the video for the public good," he said, rejecting Park's claim.

The court said, `Park used words that could be seen as criticizing or insulting Jang Won-young, and many insulting expressions that revealed sarcastic or derogatory feelings were used in subtitles and narrations of the video"What was posted in the related video, such as the nationality of Jang Won-young and the failure of other trainees to debut, do not appear to be true."

Earlier, the Taldeok concentration camp was sued by Jang Won-young and his agency Starship Entertainment for distributing fake news several times containing the rumors of Ive Jang Won-young's romantic relationship and discord between members.

In the 100 million damages lawsuit filed by Jang Won-young and Starship Entertainment, some of the plaintiffs were ruled in favor, but the Taldeok concentration camp even filed an appeal for the first trial's suspension of execution, expressing its unfairness.

In addition, the Taldeok concentration camp is also filing a lawsuit for damages against BTS V and Jungkook, and Kang Daniel's grand jury was sentenced to 30 million won in compensation in the first trial, but objected. In addition, civil and criminal lawsuits are being filed against various artists and agencies.
