The report, which was released on the 30th, draws attention by featuring the activities and achievements of the 「Sustainable Performance」 that YG Entertainment is leading.
Published for the first time by a Korean entertainment company in 2024, the 'Sustainable Performance Report" also includes key activities and improved performance and stakeholders' voices in accordance with the '7 Principles of Sustainable Performance' established based on long-term performance know-how (▶Greenhouse Gas Management ▶Enhanced access to performances ▶ Fan Engagement ▶ Content Influence ▶ Performance Hall Safety Management ▶ Performance Hall Environmental Pollution Reduction ▶ Sustainable Performance Governance).
The special report also included more specific improvements, such as interviews with fans who want to positively evaluate and actively participate in various efforts starting from voluntary problem consciousness, safety compliance standards, and inspection checklist at the venue, as well as calculating greenhouse gas emissions due to audience movement, energy use, waste disposal, and equipment transportation in the 6th performance held in Korea last year.
In addition, this year's sustainability management report analyzes two evaluations at the same time, including social and environmental impacts and financial impacts of ESG activities on companies, and ▶ Response to climate change and implementation of a carbon neutrality roadmap ▶ Strengthening corporate governance ▶ Securing and training human resources ▶ Promotion of legal and ethical management.
YG Entertainment is reducing greenhouse gas emissions (28% year-on-year↓) and energy use (3.0% 〃↓) for the third consecutive year to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040 and RE100 by 2025, expanding the ratio of renewable energy use (28.8% ↑ 〃). This year, greenhouse gas emissions from major subsidiaries YG PLUS and YG JAPAN were also identified and verified, and the scope of Scope 3 (other indirect emissions), such as 'fuel and energy-related activities' and 'workplace waste' within YG Entertainment, was expanded from 2 to 4, laying the foundation for establishing a practical reduction strategy.
In addition, it established an eco-friendly album roadmap for record production considering environmental protection and suggested a direction to promote sustainability across the industry with a step-by-step implementation plan. In the short term, the company plans to measure carbon emissions across the music production supply chain, reduce plastic use during the production process, and consider using recycled materials. In the mid- to long-term, more fundamental alternatives are being examined, such as the introduction of eco-friendly transportation in the distribution network, the spread of efforts in the industry, and strengthening cooperation.
In addition, in order to strengthen expertise and independence, a new outside director with accounting and legal expertise was appointed as the chairman of the board of directors, laying the groundwork for independent operation. The board of directors' evaluation system was also introduced for the first time to improve the operation of the board and increase its reliability.
This report complies with global reporting guidelines such as GRI (International Sustainability Reporting Standards), SASB (Sustainability Accounting Standards Board), and ISSB (International Sustainability Standards Board). Reliability has also been secured through third-party verification by the Korea Management Certification Institute (KMR). It also plans to release an English report for overseas stakeholders in August.
