Severance Hospital announced on the 30th that it officially opened the Min Yoongi Treatment Center on the first floor of the Jejunggwan. Yonsei University President Yoon Dong-seop, Yonsei Medical Center Director Ki-chang, Severance Hospital Director Lee Kang-young, Severance Hospital Director Kang Hoon-chul, Severance Hospital Director Ahn Seok-kyun, Director of Mental Health Medicine at Severance Hospital, and Professor Cheon Geun-ah, Director of the Min Yoon-ki Treatment Center, were also joined by outside figures such as Kim Yong-jik, chairman of the Korea Autistic People's Love Association.
The center was established in June with 5 billion won donated by BTS member Suga (real name Min Yoon-ki) to Severance Children's Hospital. Inside, there is a language and behavior therapy room, as well as a music and social group therapy room complete with sound and soundproofing facilities. In the waiting space, the work of autistic spectrum artist Lee Kyu-jae is displayed to add a warm atmosphere.
Since last year, Suga has met autistic children with Professor Chun Geun-ah and continued music service, including playing guitar. Based on this, the world's first art convergence treatment and independence system 'MIND' program was developed. 'MIND' is a music-based group therapy program in which children choose their desired instruments, participate in ensembles, and gain social experience, and is also considered effective for children with difficulty in language communication.
Pediatric psychiatrists, music, language, behavioral therapists, and clinical psychologists participate in the center to provide customized integrated treatment. Director Cheon Geun-ah emphasized that "Min Yoongi Treatment Center is the starting point of art convergence therapy that encompasses music, art, and physical education. It will play a major role in improving social awareness of disability as well as treatment effects."
Severance Hospital plans to expand and relocate the center in line with the expansion of demand for programs in the future and strive to cultivate professional manpower.
