NewJeans’ 'Hype Boy' Ranks Among Rolling Stone’s ‘250 Best Songs of the 21st Century

Group NewJeans delivered good news during the exclusive contract war.

On the 8th (local time), Rolling Stone released '250 Best Songs of the 21st Century'. One of the New Jeans' debut songs, 'Hype Boy', was proudly ranked at number 206.

Rolling Stone introduced 'lower boy' as a song that expresses the culture of the younger generation and the excitement of unrequited love with an infectious charm. "'Half Boy' gives off a fresh and modern sound and retro sensibility at the same time," he said. "The five members harmonize beautifully but present their own unique voices in less than three minutes of running time."

'Hip Boy' is NewJeans' debut song featuring a refreshing and sophisticated sound that combines Mumbahton and Electro Pop, which created a global syndrome when it hit domestic and international charts upon its release in August 2022. The song has been played more than 700 million times on Spotify, the world's largest music streaming platform, and is still loved by major music charts in Korea.

NewJeans is currently in a dispute over an exclusive contract with his agency, Adore. In November last year, NewJeans declared its own activities, saying that the exclusive contract was terminated due to the violation of the contract, and Audor filed an injunction against the members to confirm the validity of the exclusive contract, preserve the agency's status, and ban the signing of advertising contracts. The court cited all of Odor's applications for provisional injunction. As a result, NewJeans has been banned from independent activities. In the end, NewJeans declared the suspension of its activities, and the first trial will be held on the 30th of this month in connection with the exclusive contract dispute.
