SBS announced that it decided to cancel the broadcast of 'Dongsang Imong' scheduled for the afternoon of the 30th and rerun the special documentary 'Whale and Me' instead. This is a measure to express condolences for the Jeju Air passenger plane disaster that occurred on the 29th.
The accident, which occurred at Muan International Airport in Jeollanam-do on the morning of the 29th, killed 179 out of a total of 181 passengers and rescued only two crew members. Immediately after the accident, the government designated January 4 next year as the national mourning period.
SBS also confirmed the cancellation of the "2024 SBS Entertainment Awards" scheduled for the 31st. The ceremony will not be broadcast live or pre-recorded, and future schedules have not yet been set.
Other broadcasters who have made similar decisions are also joining the mood of national mourning. '2024 MBC Acting Awards' scheduled to be held on the 30th and '2024 KBS Acting Awards' and '2024 MBC Music Festival' were all canceled live broadcasts and replaced with pre-recording. Each broadcaster plans to release the recorded version at an appropriate time in the future.
