Byron Mann met with Sports Chosun at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul on the 30th and said, "At first, I was offered a casting offer, and I thought I came in wrong."When I read the script, I became interested in the role."
Released on the same day, 'Soju War' is a story about the 1997 IMF financial crisis, the life of a soju company, the financial director Jongrok, and a global investment company employee who seeks only results, confronts the fate of the Korean people's soju. Byron Mann plays Gordon, the Hong Kong headquarters of global investment company Sol Queen.
Byron Mann came to Korea the day before the release for the promotion of 'Soju War'. "In fact, in Hollywood, we rarely go from theater to theater and meet the audience," he said. Movies are made for the audience, and it's good to meet them in person and form a relationship. Also, I was surprised that audiences of various ages, from teenagers to the elderly, were in the theater," he said.
He also said how he became the first to challenge Korean movies. Byron Mann said, "My manager said he received an offer from a Korean production company around February 2023.""I thought the production company mistakenly suggested that I have to stay in Korea for about three months and film a movie. But when I read the script, I found out that my role was a Chinese-American role belonging to an investment bank, and I was interested. Afterwards, we talked a lot about the movie with the production team."
Above all, it went through a thorough preparation process to complete the character. Before filming the movie, Byron Mann said, `I didn't know much about the IMF, so I tried to investigate more about what Korea was like back then. Didn't these similar things happen in many countries. Especially in Korea, it is an event that many people remember, and I think I was able to learn and grow and transform through the process," he said.
"I've played a lot of heroic characters and villain characters in my career as an actor," he said. "I don't know how it is in Korea, but the Anglo-American community doesn't avoid villain acting either. Rather, in terms of acting, isn't it possible to express villain characters well without limitations. If there is no good villain in the movie, I think it could be bland. I always think Villain is more of an interesting character than a predecessor."
