The press preview of the Netflix animated film 'This Star Needed' was held at Lotte Cinema Konkuk University Entrance in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul on the 27th. Kim Tae-ri, Hong-kyung and Han Ji-won attended the site.
'Necessary for this star' is a romance between Nanyoung, an astronaut dreaming of exploring Seoul and Mars, and Jay, who has put his dream of becoming a musician, and heading toward dreams and love. It is the work of director Han Ji-won, who won the Seoul IndieAnifest Grand Prize for the short animation 'Kopyruwak' and was invited to leading domestic and international film festivals such as the Sundance Film Festival and the Palm Springs International Film Festival with the short story 'Sea of the Day of Magic'.
As we can surmise from the title, this work tells the love story of Nanyeong and Jay, who are as far away as Earth and Mars. As soon as they begin their love, those who face separation go beyond simple separation and heal and grow the wounds and trauma left inside. Then, the reason for casting the two actors was that Nanyoung and Jay wanted to express through the story of the work"The two actors' voices as well as their energy itself resembled the character. For Nan-young, I wanted to reflect Taeri's bouncy charm and strong tendencies. For Jay, I wanted to melt not only the subtlety and bright energy of Hong Kyung, but also the shadow that exists behind her", he explained.
Kim Tae-ri and Hong-kyung drew attention by challenging their first voice acting through 'This star needs'. Kim Tae-ri played the voice of Nanyoung, an astronaut who studies cutting-edge technology. He "When the offer first came in, it was like a dream. But voice acting is not my specialty, so I was worried a lot"I met with the director and talked to him, and he was persuaded by telling me why he wanted to do this work, and I wanted to try it together. I enjoyed reading the scenario and liked the message the director wanted to convey, so I wondered what kind of picture it would be made when it was made into a movie."
Kim Tae-ri, who challenged not only his voice acting but also his live-action acting, said "It was so much fun. While analyzing the script, I memorized the lines, and I concentrated with (Hong)kyung and filmed as if I were on the stage of the play. I was amazed by the work process itself, and when I looked at the results, I was amazed by the fact that it was made like this. It was a very pleasant challenge for me."
Hong-kyung plays Jay, who works at a retro sound equipment repair shop with a dream of becoming a musician. On how he joined the work, he said "The director's writing itself was attractive. If the background is 2050, I thought I could just imagine it, but I thought it would be so interesting when I said that things like that were painted in paintings," he said.
In addition, Kim worked with Kim for the second time following the SBS drama 'evil' which aired in 2023. Hong Kyung has gained good learning because she is an older sister who loves her so much as an actress. At that time and now, we didn't just act, but we all tried to go deep into the work itself and give off energy together."
In particular, they participated in the duet song 'Life Goes On' as well as voice acting, and they also wrote and composed the song, drawing attention. One director said "As it was a romance genre, music was important and it was fun to work with you two. I think it went well with the painting because both of you had such good voices."
Kim Tae-ri said, "Originally, I was only going to participate in writing lyrics"I gathered with the director and Hong-kyung to talk, and I wondered if I could make a more fresh and different point. The lyrics started with a basic base and exchanged opinions with each other. Then, I thought it would be good to put the letters that Nanyoung and Jay wrote to each other in the lyrics. Afterwards, I participated in singing in person, and it was a great honor to participate in the OST for the work we performed."
