SBS's new Friday-Saturday drama 'The Devil: The Killer's Outing' (directed by Byun Young-joo/scripted by Lee Young-jong), which will premiere on September 5, is a high-density crime thriller in which detective Cha Soo-yeol, who has hated his mother for all his life, conducts a joint investigation with a criminal mother over a repeat copycat crime after he was caught. An unconventional combination of Ko Hyun-jung and Jang Dong-yoon, director Byun Young-joo of 『Hwacha" and writer Lee Young-jong of 『Seoul Spring" are drawing keen attention even before the broadcast.
Director Byun Young-joo emphasized the intense narrative of the work, explaining, `The story of a serial killer who brutally killed five men and his son Cha Soo-yeol, who became a police officer to pay off his mother's sins, meeting after 23 years and tracking down the copycat together.'
Then "This work was originally produced in France first, but I read the script without watching the original drama. I was fascinated by the unique subject matter and the meticulous composition of the case. Most of all, unlike the original, the advanced part made my heart cry and I gained trust in the writer", he said, revealing his background in directing.
In addition, he wanted to show how two people with different worldviews confront, conflict, and eventually solve the case, rather than capturing the typical structure of motherhood between a criminal mother and a police son.
