Netflix held a production presentation for the new documentary 'I'm a Survivor' at CGV Yongsan I'Park Mall in Yongsan-gu, Seoul on the morning of the 13th. The event was attended by producer Cho Sung-hyun, who created `I'm a Survivor' following the `I'm a God' series.
Is 'I'm a Survivor' twice 'I'm a God'? Stories. It is a documentary series that records the four harrowing events that shocked the Republic of Korea, and the story of the day that should not be repeated, with the voices of the survivors. Consisting of eight stories, 'I'm a Survivor' examines how public power and our society have protected and mass-produced criminals through JMS (Christian Gospel Mission), its leader Chung Myung-seok, and Maple's unabandoned struggle against the huge power to protect him. It also deals with the Busan Brotherhood Support Center, where the worst human rights abuses in modern Korean history were committed due to illegal public power exercise, and the murder factory was built out of hatred for the wealthy. It also deals with the structural problems of our society, which have been neglected and repeated through the voices of survivors who returned from the four hells that day, including poor construction, corruption, and the collapse of Sampoong Department Store caused by irresponsibility of supervisory agencies.
Producer Cho Sung-hyun came to think of the name first and then make specific plans about the reason for making 'I'm a survivor' Looking at the situation after Maple's friend experienced it in 'I'm a Survivor', I felt more solidified. The friend came out of the brainwashed state and won a fight with a man who believed he was God, but there were many other reactions on the Internet. What hurt me was the response of 'How stupid you must be to be subjected to such a thing?' It seems that the victims in our story are simply those who take what they call victims. They are precious people and deserve respect, but I felt that I couldn't do it and decided on the name 'I'm a survivor' he said.
Producer Cho dealt with cases such as Brother Welfare Center, JMS, Zizonpa, and Sampoong Department Store this time. Producer Cho explained why he organized the story, saying, "We looked at what the most unrecurring disasters in Korea should not be repeated, and we have met many survivors of the remaining events and various events, and we have chosen stories that have people who can tell us three-dimensional stories in addition to what we have known so far." In the process, he met numerous victims and shed unforgettable tears. Producer Cho Sung-hyun has been preparing for 'I'm a Survivor' for 2 years"I'm a person familiar with the feeling of anger, and I've never cried this much before. In the process of interviewing the survivors, I thought that I was unaware of this terrible fact.
Then "I also sympathized with why they could open their mouths. The most important thing I paid attention to was to serve those who had not been able to do it in front of the camera and had not been courageous. There were also people who had been cast for nearly a year. There was only one reason why they came out. I agreed with the words that this should not be repeated. "

Again, 'I'm a Survivor' conveys vivid emotions to viewers while constructing a lifelike set. PD Cho says that for "'survival' to be meaningful, they should show the environment they've survived (I think), I've embodied four hells. Brother Welfare Center checked the photos, drawings, and designs of the time and built an interview set. It embodied their survival environment. The moment I saw it, I knew what kind of environment they had endured. It showed that there was still hell that they couldn't escape", he explained.
Although he has finished preparing to meet viewers after careful preparation, he has met a reef just before its release. JMS filed a provisional injunction against MBC and Netflix against former church member Lee, and the JMS Saints Association. On the 12th, the Civil Agreement Department 21 (Chief Judge Jeon Bo-seong) of the Seoul Western District Court held an interrogation. JMS argued in court that `the production team is raising false suspicions and defaming JMS believers and denominations.' However, the production company countered that the documentary was made based on facts for the purpose of public interest.' As the release of 'I'm a Survivor' is scheduled for the 15th, attention is being paid to whether it will be possible to release it normally.
Producer Cho Sung-hyun responded, `I was worried about what if something happened that I couldn't disclose that day. I hope everyone can see it at 4pm on August 15th" he opened his mouth.
"Yesterday (12th) was the day of the court hearing, and a total of three applications for provisional injunction were received before the broadcast was aired. They're asking us not to turn on our broadcast. I don't know why I have to stop the broadcast like this, but it seems to disprove that it's very inconvenient to be released to someone, as is Season 1 and this time. But it's something everyone should know. I trust the courts of the Republic of Korea and believe that they will make good judgments for the people."
'I'm a Survivor' will be released on Netflix on the 15th.
