Producer Oh Da-young said in a press conference for MBC's new Friday-Saturday drama `Let's Go to the Moon' held at MBC's Golden Mouse Hall in Mapo, Seoul on the 16th, `Please ease the speculative concern since it is a drama about coins.' `Racism videos should have been carefully worked on, but we will develop cognitive sensitivity.'
'Let's go to the moon' is a hyperrealist survival story that takes place when three women with dirt spoons who cannot survive on salary alone jump into coin investment. In addition, the fresh combination of Lee Sun-bin, Ra Mi-ran, Jo A-ram and Kim Young-dae adds to the expectation. It is expected to provide a different kind of fun to the small screen through novel materials and narratives that evoke empathy that have not been covered in existing dramas.
Attention is drawn to the fact that it is based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Jang Ryu-jin, rather than Mu?d. Producer Oh Da-young said, `At first, I thought about how to make such a small story, not a time slip, not a huge historical drama, not a psychopath or a killer", he confessed.
Then, as a difference from the original, he tried to bring back the taste of words and psychology of the characters. I tried to keep the taste of words alive, and I didn't change the main character's setting much. However, the age group varied. There are usually a lot of things that three women of the same age are close to each other, but they are thinking about how to differentiate themselves It will be set to 20s, 30s, and 40s. I adapted it with the idea of dissolving each concern in various ways in the work.
On the other hand, there are many stories about using the material 'coin investment'. Producer Oh said "Young friends are working, and that's not enough, isn't it?" The same applies to setting the three roles to non-public bonds. They depend on each other by doing it like a remote island. They don't attract peers, they live without being guaranteed a promotion, and they do coins for an economic foundation while thinking about how to live well and be happy. In fact, the period from 2017 to 2018 without the current background was a time when coins were not popularized as they are now, and they were unfamiliar with it."
It is also the subject of female office workers who want to be happy because they are unfamiliar, but they think they can go to a place that is that happy. It's not about the theme of making a big hit with coins. You can think of speculation, but it's just one subject and not the main subject. I know there will be such concerns, but if you watch it, it's just a modern subject that relieves worries and hopes for the well-being of female office workers," he stressed.
The first teaser, which was released last month, also sparked controversy over racism. It was pointed out that Lee Sun-bin, Ra Mi-ran, and Jo A-ram dressed in Arabic costumes made a caricature of Middle Eastern culture when they danced parodying advertisements for the 1980s and 1990s 'Scruba'. It was intended to reproduce the advertisement more than 30 years ago, but criticism poured out that it lacked respect for other cultures amid the changing times, and MBC eventually deleted the video and apologized.
Producer Oh said, `Of course, there is a burden.' `I think we should show an attitude of reflection on the fact that we should have worked delicately but failed to do so"I really realized that Korean dramas are no longer domestic."
Then "I thought I should carefully cultivate and refine my cognitive sensitivity in various areas in the future."," he apologized again.
MBC's new Friday-Saturday drama 『Let's Go to the Moon』 will premiere at 9:50 p.m. on the 19th.
