Netflix To Participate In 8 Countries Physical: Introducing First Color Caption In Asia

Netflix has been steadily striving for better content accessibility, such as introducing a two-person narrator screen commentary method in line with the characteristics of the fast-breathing entertainment genre or improving subtitles for the deaf by reflecting user feedback. This color caption is also part of this effort, and in order to provide a new immersive viewing experience to users around the world, the speaker was intuitively distinguished by applying color to the caption. In particular, applying color to subtitles under a clear purpose is the first Korean Netflix work to be attempted.
'Physical: Asia' is a physical war fought by eight countries, including Korea, Japan, Thailand, Mongolia, Turkiye, Indonesia, Australia, and the Philippines, where participants of various nationalities appear, so many languages come and go at the same time. As it is a national competition, we cannot miss the fun of seeing various strategies and teamwork that contain the culture and colors of each country.
Accordingly, the same color as the color of each team designated in the work was used to intuitively distinguish the speaker and easily grasp the flow of the conversation based on the color of the subtitles, even if the viewer is not familiar with a specific language. For example, Korean participants' lines are displayed in red background subtitles and Japanese participants' lines in blue subtitles. In particular, the International Web Standardization Organization (W3C) has met the accessibility guidelines standards.
Color subtitles are applied to up to 33 languages, including subtitles for the deaf in Korean and English, and are available through separate settings on iOS-based devices. If the subtitle setting is not activated, the foreign language subtitles may be viewed as general subtitles to which color effects are not applied.
A Netflix representative said, `We wanted to introduce color subtitles to the "Physical: Asia" where different languages and cultures come together to provide a sense of immersion beyond the boundaries of language,' adding, `Netflix will continue to strive to expand accessibility to ensure that all users enjoy the best entertainment experience equally.'
Meanwhile, episodes 1-4 of the physical war 'Physical: Asia' will be released worldwide on Netflix at 4 p.m. on the 28th. After that, 5-6 episodes will come at 5 p.m. on November 4, 7-9 episodes at 5 p.m. on November 11, and 10-12 episodes at 5 p.m. on November 18.
