Netflix, Physical Asian Caption Marks Pao Chai An Sinchi..Professor Seo Kyung-duk is a good example

Netflix entertainment 'Physical: Asia' marked 'Kimchi' as 'Cinch' in Chinese subtitles.

In the Netflix entertainment show 「Physical: Asia」, which has recently become a hot topic, kimchi is marked as"Shinchi" (辛奇) in Chinese subtitles, which is gaining great popularity from viewers. So far, Netflix has been criticized for mistranslating all of its kimchi into 'Pao Chai' (泡菜) in a number of works.

Professor Seo Kyung-duk of Sungshin Women's University reported on the 22nd 'Kimchi Day'"I checked and found out that in episode 12 of 'Physical: Asia', Kimchi's Chinese subtitles were marked as 'Cinch' (辛奇)."

In 2021, the Korean government partially revised the guidelines for translation and notation of public terms in foreign languages, specifying the correct Chinese notation of kimchi as 'Cinch' (辛奇).

Professor Seo said, `In China, the origin of kimchi is 'Paochai' and 'Kimchi Process' is constantly being carried out"Under these circumstances, Netflix's notation of 'Cinch' is very welcome."

In particular, as Netflix's global influence is so great, this cinch notation will be a good example of overshadowing China's unreasonable claims. We will continue to do our best to make kimchi labeling of global OTT (online video service) proper in multiple languages," he added.
