Woods joined the army in January last year and served in the military band at the Korea Military Academy, and continued his sincere military life by being selected as a special fighter during his service.
Woods, in particular, drew attention with unusual musical performances while serving in the military. The self-composed song 'Drowning', released in April 2023, has been a hit since October last year, sweeping major music charts such as Melon and Genie, and even topping terrestrial music broadcasts.
In the midst of such a reverse driving craze, hot attention is being paid to him, and expectations for his post-disposal move are also rising. Woods will start his full-fledged activities on the 27th, starting with the appearance of the "2025 SBS Music Competition SUMMER". In August, it will also be on stage at Japan's largest music festival 'SUMMER SONIC 2025'.
Woods will open an official fan community at 2 p.m. today, the day of his discharge, on the global K Culture fan platform 'Berriz', and at 8 p.m., he will communicate more closely with fans through a global commemorative live broadcast on the platform.
The following is a full text of questions and answers with Woods
Q. Congratulations on your discharge! First, please tell us how you feel about being discharged from the military.
When I first joined the army, I thought it would be hard, but I can't believe that I've been discharged after a year and a half. I'm really happy right now.
Q. You're ending your military career for about a year and a half, so what was your time in the military for you in general?
I think it was an unforgettable time for me. It was a time when 'Drowning' received a lot of attention, and I was able to organize what I wanted to do by seeing, hearing, and feeling in a more regular and mentally relaxed environment than in society.
Q. You have served in the military sincerely, such as being selected as a special fighter, what is the most memorable moment in your service?
I remember the day I went to the first event. The first time I went to the event after finishing the training center was a school district recruitment promotion event held at Sejong University, and I had the opportunity to meet my fans after a long time that day. It felt amazing and special to meet people who loved me as a singer in society as a soldier.
Q. What has changed you personally and musically while serving in the military?
While working with my friends who played other classical instruments, I was able to hear the sounds of various instruments, and I also talked a lot about music with my colleagues who played drums, guitar, and bass. That's why I was able to think and express the details more deeply when writing songs.
Q. While I was serving in the military, my self-composed song 'Drawing' went back up and received a lot of love. I'm curious about how you felt when you first went back on the road.
In fact, even just before I was discharged from the military, I didn't feel the reverse driving well. When executives and other soldiers talked to me in the unit and asked for an autograph, I felt 'Oh, something went well. But I think it was hard to feel it with my body because I was in the unit. Still, as I read various articles online, I felt very grateful, and I made a lot of determination to work harder in the future to meet my precious interests.
Q. It's not a flash reverse, but it's not cooling down until about 9 months later. You won first place on various music charts as well as first place on terrestrial music programs. I'm also curious about how you feel about this.
In fact, I don't think I've ever thought deeply about these moments because I'm not the type to work with big rankings, but I was so happy to face these moments. I will continue to think and work on better music and better activities rather than doing music for the ranking, but I will try to live up to the expectations as much as you gave me this grateful moment.
Q. I saw a lot of witty comments on Woods' video, do you have any memorable comments?
I think the comments such as Drowning is rowing alone and self-driving since I'm in the unit are memorable.
Q. Is there anything you personally want to do or plan for after you are discharged from the military?
I think I'm thinking and planning about music the most these days, which is my essential work. I'm paying the most attention to and planning for the album and the concert.
Q. The public's interest in future albums is also high. Can you also tell me about the album release plan or what kind of music you're going to perform?
Of course, I will do my favorite rock genre, and I want to make music with a mood that matches the various things I want to express in the album or lyrics. I want to try more and try various genres, but I want to listen to music that is convincing to many people.
Q. Please say something to the fans who have been waiting for a long time.
MOODZ, I'm finally back. Thanks to the generous support and love you have sent me, I think I have overcome it by gaining a lot of strength even in difficult moments. I knew it before, but I felt a lot again in the military that your love gives me so much strength. I will continue to try not to lose my initial motivation and become a singer who can be proud of you when you say 'I'm a fan of WOODZ' anywhere. I don't always think I should be loved for granted. So I know how valuable MOODZ's love is. I won't rush and show you slowly. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, and I love you.
Q. If there is anything you want to say lastly, please feel free to say.
Thank you very much to everyone who recognized me. During the military service, I was able to have a happy time because of my excessive love. We will continue to prepare a lot to repay those precious interests, so please enjoy it. I will always learn humbly and try to become a cooler person. Just as the moments that could be your little attention have come together and made me a miraculous time, I will try to be a person who can contribute to your happiness.
I would also like to thank everyone who joined me in the military. I really respect and thank you to the Korean soldiers who are protecting the country in their respective positions even in the hot weather.
