Netflix, an entertainment streaming service, confirmed the production of a new drama 'Scandal' (tentative title) on the 27th and unveiled the casting lineup of Son Ye-jin, Ji Chang-wook, and Nana.
'Scandal' It is a drama about a rude and dangerous love bet between Mrs. Cho, a woman who has great talent to live with only women in the Joseon Dynasty, and a woman Hee-yeon, who is involved in the bet.
'Scandal' is based on the 2003 film 'Scandal - Joseon Men's and Women's Sangyeoljisa'. Just before the French Revolution, the film moved Pierre Chouderlo de Laclo 'Dangerous Relationship' to the Joseon Dynasty, where neither love nor temptation was prohibited, depicting a high-ranking French society promiscuous by conspiracy and destruction. It has been praised by the audience for beautifully and irascibly portraying a story stained with fatal temptation, betrayal, and revenge between the aristocrats. Despite the rating of youth not being able to watch at the time, 3.52 million was a box office hit, and it adds to the question of how the original work, which was loved for its narrative and beautiful costumes and art that captivated the five senses, will evolve into a Netflix drama.
'Scandal' is set in the Joseon Dynasty, when having desire itself was taboo, and it will narrowly portray the stories of those who engage in a rash bet of love and temptation as if challenging a strict Confucian order.
Son Ye-jin plays the role of Mrs. Cho, who has outstanding talent and charm but makes a behind-the-scenes love bet against the reality of the times when she is born a woman and cannot do anything. Mrs. Cho first suggests a temptation bet to Cho Won, who adores her, and shows her appearance as the best strategist.
Ji Chang-wook will play the role of Cho Won, who seeks pleasure and fun rather than becoming Joseon's best playboy and rising to public office. Cho Won is an attractive man who does not believe in love and only enjoys dating, and jumps in by any means to win the heart of Mrs. Cho by winning the bet. Nana plays Hee-yeon, who tries to cut off the group approaching her while living with her husband's love. Hee-yeon is a character who tries to hold herself, but is shaken by unknown emotions toward 'Jon', and shows a complex inner side that is increasingly attracted to him.
'Scandal' was directed by Jung Ji-woo, a representative Korean film director who directed the movie 'Yu-yeol's music album'Happy End' and introduced the drama 'Somebody'. Writer Lee Seung-young and writer Ahn Hye-song, who was responsible for the adaptation of `Somebody' will participate in the play together.
