Cho Hyung-ki was virtually expelled from the entertainment industry in 2017 after appearing on the MBN entertainment program 'Golden Egg'.

The reason why Cho Hyung-ki stopped broadcasting was because of an incident more than 30 years ago. On August 3, 1991, he hit and killed a woman in her 30s by drunk driving. Afterwards, he dumped the body in the forest next to the road, fell asleep in the car, and was arrested by the police who were belatedly dispatched, shocking him. Cho Hyung-ki was sentenced to five years in prison by the Supreme Court for mental and physical weakness caused by drinking, but was released in 1993 after two years of imprisonment due to the government's parole measures.
