Hwang Jung-eum Gets 4-Year Probation in Embezzlement Case

On the 25th, the Jeju District Court sentenced actor Hwang Jung-eum, who was handed over to trial on charges of violating the law on aggravated punishment of specific economic crimes, to two years in prison and four years of probation. Hwang Jung-eum is accused of embezzling 4.34 billion won in funds from Hunminjeongeum Entertainment, a family corporation that owns a 100% stake in 2022. It is known that Hwang Jeong-eum invested 4.2 billion won of the embezzled money in virtual currency and paid property tax and local tax for the rest.
Hwang Jung-eum said he admitted all the charges during the trial and reimbursed all the embezzlement money twice on May 30 and June 5.
At the final trial, Hwang Jung-eum appealed for leniency, saying, `I invested in cryptocurrency with the intention of growing the company.' `I lacked awareness of accounting or procedures, and I thought immaturely that there would be no problem if I made a repayment later.'
Hwang Jeong-eum also said in his closing statement "I think this happened because I couldn't take care of accounting and taxation well because I lived hard.", showing remorse.
