In an interview with YTN Star on the 26th, Choi Yang-rak said, `I visited the hospital with my wife, Paeng Hyun-sook, three days ago and said goodbye to my brother.' He was in Japan at the time and received a phone call from Yoo Seong-i's brother-in-law's daughter and son-in-law. My brother said 'I'm getting ready to leave now and I think of you the most.' When I heard that, I returned home the next day and rushed to the hospital," he recalled.
Choi Yang-rak said "My brother didn't lose his humor until the end. Without expressing pain, he greeted us with conversations and jokes as usual. "I think he lived as a comedian until the end."
The relationship between the two dates back to the early days of the comedy world. Senior Jeon Yoo-seong was a mentor who actively took care of rookie Choi Yang-rak, connected him with opportunities to appear on the show, and even taught him attitudes on stage and in life. Choi Yang-rak said, "I was able to get a position on the show because of the trust of Jeon Yu-seong", he confessed. I did several movies and commercials as well as TV programs.
Jeon Yu-seong died at 9:05 p.m. on the 25th due to worsening pulmonary pneumothorax symptoms. He has been hospitalized for treatment due to the aftereffects of COVID-19 and worsening conditions after lung resection, but has not recovered in the end. It is known that he did not want life-sustaining treatment while he was alive, and he also left a direct opinion on funeral procedures.
Born in Seoul in 1949, Jeon Yu-seong started as a broadcast writer for TBC 'Show' in 1969 and later turned into a comedian. He also played a pivotal role in the Korean comedy scene by participating in the early production of KBS 'Gag Concert' and 'Humor No. 1' and 'Show Video Jockey'.
In addition, he established the first comedy-only theater in Cheongdo, Gyeongsangbuk-do, and performed more than 4,400 times, and took the lead in nurturing juniors by supporting unknown comedians and aspirants with his own money. Choi Yang-rak, Lee Yun-seok, Kim Shin-young, Hwang Hyun-hee, and Kim Min-kyung are among his juniors.
Jeon Yu-seong, who first used the term 'Gagman' and left behind a number of books, was also loved for his writing activities such as 『Anthology of Cultural Heritage of Others』 and 『The Gura Samgukji of Jeon Yu-seong』.
Choi Yang-rak said "I visited my brother as soon as I made my debut when I was a freshman in college, and I've been dating him for 45 years. Without my brother, I would not be who I am now."
Jeon Yu-sung's funeral was held as a comedy director, and a mortuary was set up at Asan Medical Center in Seoul. In accordance with the will of the deceased, the presidency will be held in the KBS area.
